"To reach all people with the Good News that Jesus Christ died for our sins to give us eternal life."
Epworth United Methodist Church continues to grow and to provide nurture in the Christian faith for families as well as for individuals.
- 1886: In Girard, AL a small group of people gathered in a living room to worship the Lord. William "Shoe String" White met with them and saw a need for the faithful to have a church. "Shoe String" mortgaged his home and built the people a church that soon became known as the "little white church on the hill".
- 1911: The church changed its name from the "Girard Mission" to "Epworth Chapel".
- 1950: Epworth Chapel changed it's name to Epworth Methodist, as it moved into a new two story brick building on Seale Road.
- 1961: Epworth held services in its new building at Asbury Park.
- 1991: Epworth moved into its new building on the 280 Bypass in December.
- 1995: A fire severely burned the rear of the church in August. Worship services were moved to the Central Activities Center. In September the church unanimously approved plans for building a new fellowship area and classroom space connected to the main building while repairs were made.
- 1996: Repairs and additions were completed as the congregation moved back into the church in February.
